...so why cork?

My journey into the world of cork jewellery began with a desire to blend style with sustainability. With a background in Costume Design with Textiles, I have always been interested in alternative materials and  I embarked on a mission to create pieces that not only adorn but also contribute to a greener planet. 

  • Source of Material:

Cork fabric is made from the outer bark of the cork oak tree, primarily found in the Mediterranean region. The trees are not cut down during the harvesting process, as only the outer bark is carefully stripped away, allowing the tree to regenerate its bark over time. 

  • Sustainability:
Cork harvesting is a sustainable practice, as the trees can be harvested every 9 to 12 years without causing harm to the tree. This makes cork a renewable and environmentally friendly resource.            
    • Properties and Appearance:
    Cork fabric is lightweight and durable, making it the ideal earring material. Each piece has a unique pattern, resulting in the creation of one-of-a-kind pieces.         
    • Hypoallergenic:
    Cork fabric is hypoallergenic, making it a suitable choice for people with allergies or sensitivities to other materials.                                         
      • Eco-Friendly Alternative:
      As a sustainable and renewable material, cork fabric is often considered an eco-friendly alternative to synthetic materials and animal leather.

         

        Hand-painted 

        Each of my creations is meticulously hand-painted, resulting in no two pieces being identical and embodying a distinctive sense of uniqueness. Many of my designs feature double-sided elements, providing a complete 3D perspective when being worn.

         

        Sustainability Commitment

        I believe that fashion should leave a positive impact on the world. That's why, at Incorknito Designs, we prioritise sustainability at every stage. From responsibly sourced cork to eco-friendly packaging, our commitment to the environment is as steadfast as our dedication to creating beautiful, lasting accessories. I knew I wanted to make my business as eco-friendly as I could to work in harmony with my main material. My packaging is all recyclable and is comprised of recycled acid free tissue paper, paper tape, shredded paper packaging and biodegradable/compostable vegetable starch bags. Also, any wood I use in making my earrings is FSC® certified and I’m always on the lookout for improving my eco-friendliness and reducing my impact on the world.
